Fencing is great exercise, a way to meet new friends and learn a new skill. Kids apply the discipline and problem solving skills learned during fencing at home and school; adults get to network in a small community. Our fencers learn how to succeed both in winning and in failure. Our coaches provide a fun and comprehensive beginners course that will help integrate you into our club. On top of that, it’s a great conversation starter. And let’s face it – we all love to play with swords!
We generally introduce new members through our bi-annual beginners classes, however we can sometimes arrange taster sessions by arrangement. We also work with Sport England to do outreach work and promote fencing as a sport in the community. If you would like to know more about our classes, taster sessions or outreach work please get in touch with us.
People often ask about Kit and Insurance – both these are arranged and provided for by Bath Sword Club for the duration of our Beginners classes. Should you decide to continue fencing after the beginners classes finish you will be asked to join the British Fencing Association and this memberhsip will cover insurance. We encourage you to buy your own kit over time as you continue fencing but we continue to provide access to kit for the following year (and beyond).
We have provided some initial advice on buying equipment here, but when you decide to start buying kit it is best to discuss this with one of the coaches first.
